How to enjoy your summer during COVID

We can now expect to enter into our second summer under the global pandemic. Some of us may already be pros at making sure to enjoy your summer during the pandemic. For those who don’t already have plans or know what to do while keeping with the pandemic regulations, we have some ideas for you below.

*Travel guidelines are constantly changing so be sure to check your area’s guidelines consistently before securing your plans.

Staycation

Have you ever had your weekend extended because of some holiday or having called a day off and enjoy the comfort of your own bed that much more? One of the best ways of making sure you are enjoying yourself while still living under restrictions due to the pandemic truly is by staying home. If you have a television that can stream on YouTube, you can have video of a campfire going as you make s’mores using your oven. Or, you can simply cuddle up on the couch with your loved ones and drink some hot chocolate as you watch one of your favorite movies. You can even try to learn or try something new! Do you have a guitar collecting dust in your attic? Pick it up and find YouTube tutorials that’ll teach you how to make a real note. Do you have a book that’s been discarded and forgotten under your bed? Dive into it and see where it takes you.

Camping

Think about the sound leaves make when wind is rushing through them. Or, think about the real view you’ll have of the stars, being so removed from any bright city. Camping may be one of the best ways you can enjoy your summer during the pandemic as long as you are following the regulations within your given area. Perfect for social distancing, you and your family will be isolated from the hustle and bustle of the city or the quiet consistency of the suburbs while reconnecting yourself with the serenity of nature, making real s’mores by a real campfire.

Hiking

Much like camping, hiking can be done on your own or you can take along those who live with you. When choosing a trail, it’s important you make sure to pick something you and your party can handle. Personally, being a Florida native has only ever exposed me to flat areas to hike through in which I’ve been surrounded by towering trees – which was much appreciated because the Florida sun is killer. But if you live in a particularly hilly or mountainous area and have the right stamina, you’ll be sure to have many amazing views of the world below and around you the further up you hike. Either way, you’ll be able to enjoy the outdoors and its calming effect. We’d recommend you choose a trail that you know will not be too populated so as to be as safe as possible. If you happen to find another party, do your best to maintain 6 feet of social distancing and cover your face with a mask.

Water activities: Kayaking and Canoeing

Further adventurous activities include kayaking and canoeing, which in their nature are often isolated being that up to three people can be in one kayak at a time.

Of course, to make sure you’re following regulations, make sure your party is made of people who currently live with you, and you should be good to go! Nothing bonds – or annoys – you more than working together to row your respective boat. You will all be able to enjoy the warmth of the sun as it beams from above, the coolness of the water if you ever lose balance and tip over, and the overall peace that comes from being surrounded by nature. Make a game out of how many turtles you might see along your journey!

Picnics

What’s more lovely than a nice picnic with your family? All you’d each have to do is prepare the food from home and agree on a favored, isolated spot to enjoy your snacks and company. Although less adventurous than hiking or kayaking, you can make it a regular commitment throughout the summer and stay in touch with nature – and each other – while social distancing from others.
